Living the Sacrificial Love of Jesus…

No greater love does one have than to lay down their life for another—for a friend.

This is not a light statement. To lay down your life means surrendering all—your comfort, your pride, your will, even your very breath. Jesus Himself showed us the ultimate example of this kind of love.

Are you willing to lay down your life for a friend, for another person? That question can feel overwhelming, even intimidating. But think about what Jesus did. He didn’t just give His life for His disciples or those who followed Him closely. He gave His life for the entire world—even for those who didn’t yet know Him, and for those who would reject Him. Still, He called us friends.

“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.”—John 15:13

When we ponder this, it’s not only about physically dying for someone. It’s about daily choosing to lay down selfishness, pride, and personal ambition to serve others. It’s about sacrificing time, energy, and resources to care for those around us. Each act of selflessness reflects the heart of Jesus.

The real question is not just are we willing to die for someone else, but are we willing to live for someone else? To carry each other’s burdens, to forgive when it’s hard, to love when it’s inconvenient, that is Christlike love in action.

Something to Ponder

Jesus laid down His life for people who had yet to know Him. If He called us His friends and loved us before we loved Him, how much more should we be willing to show that same love to others?

Love, Blessings & Shalom,

Michael

Scripture for Reflection

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”—Romans 5:8

Closing Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for showing us what true love looks like. You gave everything so that we could live. Teach us to walk in that same love, to lay down our pride, our comfort, and our will, so that others may see You through us. Give us hearts willing to serve, forgive, and love sacrificially. May our lives reflect the greater love You have shown to us. In Your holy name, Amen.
