Broken Dreams

I’m going to keep this very real.

What you’re about to read is something I first came across when I admitted myself into a treatment center at the age of 21 for drug addiction. It’s called Broken Dreams and the author is unknown.

When I first read it, the words deeply impacted my life. I believed in God at the time, but I didn’t truly know Him. It wasn’t until later that He completely rocked my world with His love, grace, and mercy.

Here it is:

As children bring their broken toys with tears for us to mend, I brought my broken dreams to God because He was my friend.

But then instead of leaving Him in peace to work alone, I hung around and tried to help with ways that were my own.

At last I snatched them back and cried, “How could you be so slow?” “My child,” He said, “What could I do? You never did let go.”

Aren’t there dreams in each of our lives that feel shattered? Times when hope seems lost, when we just want to give up and throw in the towel? I know I’ve been there—have you?

The truth is, when we let go and fully trust God, that is where we begin to see His promises come to life. I’m still learning this lesson myself. And if you knew some of the things I’ve been walking through lately, you might think I’m crazy for saying this—but I’m not.

Because when we can truly release our broken dreams into God’s hands, everything will be fulfilled in His perfect way and His perfect time.

Love, Blessings & Shalom,Michael

Scripture for Reflection

  • “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” — Proverbs 3:5–6

  • “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7

  • “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” — Jeremiah 29:11

A Prayer for You

Father, I bring to You the broken dreams of my life. Help me to release them fully into Your hands and not take them back. Teach me to trust Your timing, Your wisdom, and Your love. Heal the places of disappointment and fill me with hope again. Thank You that You are faithful, and that nothing surrendered to You is ever wasted. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
